The Senate is currently debating the nomination of John Bolton as US Ambassador to the UN. The vote is set for Thursday, May 26, 2005.
Update [2005-5-25 19:13:5 by catnip]: Cloture vote 6pm ET, Thursday, May 26th.
To this point, we have heard from Lugar(R), Biden(D), Warner(R) and Voinovich(R). Voinovich spoke out against Bolton's nomination and choked up at the end because he's very concerned about America's future. It was very touching.
We've also heard from Rockefeller(D) and Dodd(D). Rockefeller slammed the administration for not providing unredacted documentation on the NSA intercepts (background here). As a result, Dodd made a veiled filibuster threat if the information was not forthcoming to the chairmen of the Senate Intelligence Committee and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee before the time of the vote on Thursday.
Update [2005-5-25 19:40:3 by catnip]: Reuters article about Voinovich and the possible filibuster.
Roberts(R) is now vigorously speaking against the requirement that this information be brought forward prior to the vote.
